1887 Society Ambassadors

Join The 1887 Society Ambassadors

Each year, the Graduate School selects a new class of twelve Ambassadors from across all academic areas to represent the Auburn Family at special events, both on campus and off. Signifying the rich history of Hargis Hall, which was built in the same year as the name indicates, our 1887 Society Ambassadors have opportunities to share Auburn University with prospective and new students, welcome guests and alumni to campus, and develop leadership and networking skills to enhance their education beyond the classroom.

If you are passionate about sharing your experience as an Auburn student, enjoy meeting new people or networking with special guests, and want to develop your leadership potential, we invite you to apply to join the 1887 Society Ambassadors.

Expectations and Commitments of 1887 Society Ambassadors:

  • Serve for the entire upcoming academic year, from fall to summer
  • Represent Auburn University in a professional manner in all interactions
  • Wear the provided 1887 Society Ambassador shirt and nametag at assigned events
  • Have your name and photo on the Graduate School website’s Ambassador page
  • Attend orientation and training in summer semester
  • Assist with at least one welcome/orientation event per year
  • Attend at least one recruiting event during the academic year (may require travel; expenses covered)
  • Provide at least one guided campus tour each academic year
  • Attend and assist with one special event per year (awards, lectures, etc.)
  • Attend and assist with one Graduate Advisory Council meeting per year (held fall and spring) to network with alumni and industry professionals

Application Requirements:

  • Degree-seeking graduate student (full-time preferred)
  • Currently enrolled in an on-campus program
  • Must have completed at least one graduate semester at Auburn
  • Must be enrolled for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Good academic standing (3.0 GPA or higher)
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Approval of your faculty advisor/major professor and the Graduate School
  • Previous applicants and Ambassadors must reapply each year if they wish to be considered for the following academic year’s Ambassador class.

Application procedures:

A complete application packet, via the online form linked below, will consist of:

  • A completed Ambassador application form
  • A current resume or CV (uploaded in PDF)
  • An essay of 250-500 words explaining why you would like to be an 1887 Society Ambassador. Discuss your traits or skills that will make you a good Ambassador and what you hope to gain by participating in the program (uploaded in PDF)

Interested applicants must complete the application form, upload a PDF of your resume or CV, and upload the essay in PDF using the online application form by April 15, annually, regardless of day of the week. Selected applicants will be notified via their Auburn University email no later than June 1 for the upcoming academic year, beginning in August.
